Treat metal surfaces to form insoluble phosphate film on metal surface to protect them from corrosion. For removing rust from steel, iron and other metals. When phosphoric acid tech grade contact with the rusted reddish-brown metal, there is some kind of miraculous reaction. Usually, the rust layer on the metal is iron oxide, which is converted under the action of phosphoric acid to iron phosphate, a black compound. The black compound can be simply wiped off and the metal will look brand new again.
Other industrial uses. It is used to prepare a cleaning solution for removing stains on offset printing boards in printing industry. Used to produce phosphoric acid refractory mud to improve the life of steelmaking furnaces in metallurgical industry. Used as metal anti-rust paint in paint industry. Technical grade phosphoric acid is also a coagulant for rubber slurry and raw material for the production of inorganic binders.
