If the boiler water quality is unqualified, the steam will inevitably contain impurities. Excessive impurities will cause salt accumulation in the steam turbine cocurrent part of the boiler heating surface or steam pipeline. If salt scale deposits, it will reduce heat transfer capacity. In the light, the heat absorption of steam is reduced, the exhaust gas temperature in increased and the boiler efficiency is reduced. Most seriously, it may cause the pipe wall temperature to exceed the limit temperature of the metal and cause the pipe to be over-temperature burned. If salt scale deposits in the flow part of the steam turbine, the steam flow area will be reduced, which will make the roughness of the blades increase, even change the shape of the blades. Thus, increase the resistance of the steam turbine, make it more laborious and reduce the efficiency.
Phosphate anti-scaling treatment is to add phosphate solution to keep a certain amount of phosphate radical in the boiler water. Therefore, the calcium ions in the boiler water will react with phosphate radical, the resulting basic calcium phosphate is a soft slag, which is easy to be removed with the boiler blowdown and won’t adhere to the steel and turn into scale. For that basic calcium phosphate is a very insoluble compound, its solubility product is very small. So when the boiler water maintains a certain amount of excess PO2, the concentration of calcium ions in the boiler water can be very small. Thus, the product of the concentration of calcium ions in the boiler water and the concentration of sulfate ions or silicate ions won’t reach the solubility product of calcium sulfate or calcium silicate, no calcium scale will form in the boiler.
The main phosphate used to clean the boiler is trisodium phosphate, sodium hexametaphosphates, and sometimes an appropriate amount of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate is added, but the alkalinity can’t be generally too strong. In addition, a low-foam surfactant wetting agent is appropriately added in order to increase the degreasing effect.
Phosphates play a great role in boiler water treatment, which can be used as a corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor to improve boiler operation efficiency and reduce the probability of boiler failure. Under the concept of green environmental protection, phosphates treatment technology is also constantly developing, which greatly improves the boiler environmental protection and harmless of water treatment.
